I love permaculture. I think it is a big chunk of the way out till cities bring the birth rate down enough. It is good stewardship, and though it is a lot of work setting up, once in it is a cooperative ecology that feeds you and you help it prosper. It is the opposite of raping the earth and devastating it with practices that have made deserts wherever 'civilization' has gone far enough to kill most of the life that supports human life.

It is also fun to live in harmony with your fruiting plants and your hens who trade you delicious egg protein and great fertilizer and turn the soil for your garden plot and eat insects that might bother your orchard or garden. They get water, protection from insect infestation, and fertilizer from your planning if they are plants and comfy housing, protection from predators, and a regular food supply from you if they are animals. Everybody wins.

It is fun to plan your permaculture system for whatever land you have. I planned for 2 city lots to feed us. It will. But we can't raise beef or a milk animal. That takes more ground. We could probably trade our excess for some meat and dairy, however. In some things we would have excess.
